Here’s what Ontario’s weather will be like this summer

The official start of summer is just around the corner and it’s time to start thinking about all of the day trips and cottage weekends we have to look forward to. But, before you start packing up the car, let’s take a look at Ontario’s summer weather forecast so you know exactly what to expect.

AccuWeather has released its annual summer forecast for Canada and it looks like La Niña may lead to more rain than usual this season in Ontario.

According to AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Brett Anderson, Ontarians could see increased thunderstorm activity throughout the summer.

“This may be a busy summer in terms of severe thunderstorms, especially from the Windsor to Toronto to Ottawa corridor,” said Anderson.

The meteorologist predicts that wet and stormy weather will be common in eastern and Atlantic Canada over the coming months.

All of this rain will creature more moisture in the air, leading to more humidity than normal in Ontario this summer.

“Increased humidity will lead to warmer nights when compared to normal, while temperatures during the daytime will be closer to normal,” he said.

The good thing is that the humidity and rainier conditions will decrease the risk of drought and wildfires in eastern Canada, including Ontario.

The downside, however, is urban centres like Toronto will really be feeling the effects of the humidity — cities trap heat, making it harder for temperatures to cool down, AccuWeather explains.

The warm weather will be a welcome change from the cold winter we had this year, but it looks like we’ll have to keep our fingers crossed for sunshine.
