Ontario Parks is getting ahead of the game and is already hiring for student summer jobs.

If the outdoors is calling your name, and you love spending your time out in the sun, a gig with Ontario Parks may just be the thing for you. This is the perfect opportunity to make some money before heading back to school! And hey, you might even learn a thing or two.

Applications for the 2025 season are now open and we’ve broken down how you can apply to work at one of the many Ontario parks this summer.

Who can apply?

First, let’s get the technicals out of the way. In order to get a student summer job, you must be a student.

That means you must be enrolled in a secondary or post-secondary institution and at least be 15 years of age or older. Some positions may require you to be over 16 years of age.

And last but not least, you must be a resident of Ontario during your employment and have eligibility to work in Canada, along with your Social Insurance Number.

What jobs are available?

Great question! Ontario Parks has a lot of positions available at their parks. You can use the Hiring Map to see which parks are looking to fill roles.

But to get a better idea, these positions are available at most parks:

  • Gate Attendant
  • Maintenance Worker
  • Discovery ranger
  • Park store sales clerk
  • Administrative Assistant

Positions like an interior ranger and trail maintenance worker are available at some parks too.

How do I apply to work for Ontario Parks?

Now we get to the fun part! When applying for a student summer gig, you fill out your application online through their job posting.

Then you’ll pick which parks you would like to work at, you’ll have to list up to five.

And of course, have your resume up to date and add a cover letter – it’s recommended! Be sure to add in your cover letter the parks you’re interested in, which jobs you’re interested in, which parks you would need staff housing for and which parks you live within commuting distance of, if that happens to be the case.

How much can I make?

Ontario Parks summer student jobs pay $17.20 to $18.05 per hour, depending on the job.

So not only will you be making money but you’ll also get work outdoors, taking care of Ontario’s lovely parks.

The first round of applications will close on Feb. 18, 2025. So be sure to apply early to increase your chances of being chosen.

Good luck!
