Ontario is reportedly making proof of vaccination mandatory at restaurants, gyms & more

It looks like Ontario may be moving forward on its proof of vaccination plans. The province is set to announce the new requirements, which will require you to show proof of your COVID-19 vaccination status to access many non-essential businesses, sources told CTV News Toronto on Wednesday morning.

The new rules will apparently go into effect on September 22nd and will be mandatory for places like gyms, movie theatres and to dine indoors. It’ll also be a requirement to go to big ticketed events, like concerts and sporting events.

Many organizations and festivals, including TIFF and MLSE, have already announced that guests must be fully vaccinated to attend in-person screenings and Raptors games this year.

People who aren’t vaccinated will still be able to go to retail stores and dine on patios, according to the outlet. Ontario residents will have to upload their info onto an app, which will serve as the province’s vaccine card system, but the app is still being worked on.

Premier Ford is set to make an announcement with public health officials today at 1 p.m., and there’s a good chance that he’ll be addressing the details then.

Ontario’s plans will follow in the footsteps of B.C. and Quebec, where the wheels are already in motion on vaccine passports. Canada is also set to make it mandatory to travel by plane, train, and cruise ship come October.
