Only 1 in 20 Canadians that work from home want to return to the office full-time

Following a survey of over 2,000 Canadians last month, the Angus Reid Institute has released a new study on what the end of the work from home wave in Canada might look like. And hoo boy, do they have some interesting results on their hands. Ready for a quick rundown? Keep reading!

We’re going to start out with some more high-level stuff. Of the 545 respondents in the survey that currently work from home, almost half (44%) would like to continue working from home most of the time, with a little office time sprinkled in. And, almost a third (29%) would like to keep working from home full time. On the flip side, a tiny 5% would like to return to the office full time.

Things get even zanier when the people who prefer to work from home (395) are asked about the future. Should they be forced to return to the office full time, less than half (39%) would just roll with it. Another 25% would return, but start looking for new jobs, and a relatively high percentage (19%) would just up and quit.

One reason for this is that working from home did not end up being as challenging, in general, as most expected in early 2020. Of those who had someone in their household working from home (1084), over half said that their mental state and their work productivity was either ‘good’ or ‘great’. Unsurprisingly, though, the opposite is true for people’s social lives.

Of course, things get weirder when looking at different demographics based on age and gender. For example, younger people were more adversely affected by working from home than older people, and women are more likely to return to work than men. One thing’s for sure, the workforce is going to be looking pretty crazy over the next few months!
