One of Seattle’s oldest bars is closing permanently after 132 years

Well, folks, we’re sure you’re used to cancellations and closures at this point. But sadly Seattle is losing a piece of history as the Jules Maes Saloon is closing permanently. And after 132 years it’s safe to say that they had a good run.

And its closure is due to an all too common Seattle problem- rising rent. That’s right, the landlord of this classic building is jacking up rent by a cool 27%. Very reasonable, especially in the middle of a pandemic. Good luck renting out that space in this economy.

And also COVID has obviously affected business so we understand why the Jules Maes Saloon is closing. But we sure are sad about losing another piece of Seattle’s history as that seems to be happening more and more these days. So pour one out for this Seattle classic.
