We’ve always been champions of the sustainable movement for two reasons- 1) it’s easier on the planet and 2) it’s easier on our conscience. The same, however, can seldom be said for our pockets. So we are very glad to share this news with you- our favourite skin and hair care brand, The Body Shop, a certified B-Corp, just became a lot more eco-friendly and economical, a combination hard to come by. The refill program is pretty straightforward. The brand has introduced aluminum bottles that can be refilled. In addition to helping the environment, the reduced packaging costs ultimately make the product more economical.’

After hosting the most aww-inducing protest in front of the UN headquarters in New York (remember the dogs with no-animal-testing signs) in 2018 and launching the recycled plastic program in 2019, The Body Shop has now initiated the national refill program to further help the planet’s plastic crisis.

The refill program is pretty straightforward. The brand has introduced aluminum bottles that can be refilled instead of purchasing a new plastic bottle every time that eventually goes on to pollute our landfills and oceans. In addition to helping the environment, the reduced packaging costs ultimately make the product more economical.

The 3-step refill process is pretty simple too. All you have to do is purchase the aluminum refill bottle. Get your favourite hair care product, shower gel or hand wash filled. When you’ve used it all up, wash, dry and bring the bottle back for a refill.

As part of the program, The Body Shop is installing refill stations across 400 stores globally (that includes us too, Toronto). There are 4 stores in the GTA that currently have refill stations. You can find the store near you here.

With the collective help of its customers, The Body Shop estimates preventing 27 tons of plastic from being dumped in our already plastic-covered landfills and oceans each year. And we are ready to join the movement. How about you fellow Torontonians?
