There’s an Ontario trail along an old logging road leading to a lookout atop a giant cliff

Fall hikes are calling your name! If you would like to explore more of Ontario’s wonderful outdoors, here’s a thrilling hiking trail through woods that leads to a stunning cliff. Here’s what to know about the Eagle’s Nest Lookout trail.

Head to the Township of Greater Madawaska, and you’ll find Eagle’s Nest Lookout trail right off of Calabogie Road. It’s about a four-hour drive north of Toronto.

But trust us, it’s worth the trip.

About the trail

Eagle’s Nest Lookout trail is part of the 9km long Manitou Mountain trail, according to Calabogie Peaks Resort. It leads to three spectacular mountaintop vistas.

Though the trail does branch off in parts, if you park off of Calabogie Road (6573), it’ll only take you about 20 minutes to reach the Eagle’s Head.

“Across the road, on your left, you will note the Eagle’s Nest trail sign marking the entrance to the trail. Follow the trail for about 20 minutes. Note the eagle’s head, painted signs in the trees above you on the right,” states Calabogie Peaks Resort.

“As you pass a pond on your left, look for a large, colourful and informative sign, just off to your right. Follow the short trail up the hill to the right to the cliff site and enjoy the view.”

If you’re up for the challenge, according to the resort, embark along the Eagle’s Nest Trail – a challenging three-hour trail to the lookout if you start at the Calabogie Peaks Resort.

“Hike up the Ole K&P ski trail and hop on from the Manitou Mountain Trail for a challenging 8km trail. Take the Skywalk Trail for a shorter challenging start,” shares the site.

Or you can “park closer and take the scenic Little Pine Path or the easy Old Logging Road.”

Enjoy the view atop a 120-meter cliff and set your eyes on the wonderful fall views Ontario is known for.

And as always, take every precaution as you embark on this adventure, and don’t get too close to the edge.

So, grab your camera and start the car. Your next adventure awaits!
