This Ontario park has island views, surfing & an incredible beach

Surfing, lush islands, and white-sand beaches are not things you’d typically associate with Ontario, but that’s exactly what you’ll find at Neys Provincial Park!

This park is famous for its scenic beauty — so famous, in fact, that it has been the subject of several Group of Seven paintings.

A hiking trail that takes you to a scenic lookout point of the nearby Pic Island was immortalized by Lawren Harris in his iconic 1924 painting.

The Pic Island Overlook Trail is a steep 4.5 km journey that follows an old dirt road up to a beautiful gazebo where you can rest, eat lunch, or create art, says Ontario Parks.

There’s also the amazing Under the Volcano trail, which allows you to “choose your own adventure along the rocky Lake Superior coastline and explore this trail’s unique glacial geology and volcanic history.”

But, the views are just one of many reasons to pay this special place a visit.

Ontario Parks says that Neys boasts “one the finest sand beaches on Lake Superior’s north shore.”

This Ontario park is famous for its ‘exceptionally clear’ waters & long beaches

The 2 km beach is absolutely pristine, and it’s an amazing spot to watch the waves of Lake Superior, which can be big at times.

The epic waves are becoming popular with surfers, especially in the fall when the waves are bigger.

If you plan to give surfing a try on this beach, be sure to come prepared because Lake Superior’s waters can be quite cold.

As for wildlife viewing, Neys is home to a variety of viewing sub-Arctic plants.

And if you’re lucky, you’ll catch a glimpse of the elusive Woodland Caribou.

This park has captivated artists and delighted visitors for many years, so it’s safe to say that you won’t be disappointed.
