From ice cream to hotpot: These are Metro Vancouver's newest restaurants & cafes

Hungry for something that tickles your taste buds? There are plenty of new restaurants and cafes to keep your eye out for, whether you’re craving something refreshing and cold, or hot and savoury. From ice cream and matcha to hotpot, here are eight new spots to check out in Metro Vancouver this summer.

Good Thief
The brother-sister duo behind Vancouver’s award-winning Anh and Chi has officially opened its new dining concept on Main, Good Thief. Inspired by timeless Vietnamese flavours, the new spot offers a modern menu of cocktails and Món Nhậu – the culture of eating and drinking together.

Barra Gitano
Vancouver’s newest spot for authentic Mexican fare is in the West End, now serving up a mix of Mexican and Latin American-inspired small plates, entrees, tacos, cocktails, and spirits.
Guests can catch some rays on their outdoor patio or enjoy a meal in their 100-seat indoor dining room.

Cowdog Coffee
Known for its refreshing iced matcha sips, hojicha, freshly-baked caneles, and array of espresso beverages, Cowdog has become the cafe pick of the summer, and the team has just opened up
Where: 3720 Oak Street
Slo Coffee
Slo Coffee has rapidly become ‘Fraserhood’s’ newest hangout spot, complete with iced matcha concoctions with pistachio, espresso bevies, and sweet treats galore.

Don’t Argue Pizza
Open as of early summer, Don’t Argue Pizza serves up tasty NYC-style slices on Commercial, so you have another top-notch option for all of your grab-and-go pizza needs.

Big Way Hot Pot
Known for its individualized hotpot dining experience, Big Way Hot Pot allows guests to build their own hotpots with fresh veggies, proteins, and noodles, with a complimentary ice cream waiting for them at the end of every meal.
The hotpot chain will open its second Richmond location on July 15th, followed by a new spot at UBC sometime in August. So stay tuned for the official opening date!
Locations in Coquitlam and New West are also set to open this fall, with two respective locations in Langley and Lougheed to open next year.

Kinton Ramen – Marine Gateway
Kinton is opening its fifth ramen joint in Vancouver this July, with its grand opening slated for 11 am to 9 pm on Saturday, July 20th. Here, guests can enjoy any of the restaurant’s delicious signature ramen for half off, including pork, chicken, beef, and veggie options in original, miso, shoyu, and spicy broths.
There will also be a traditional Taiko Drum performance at 10:30 am on the same day to commemorate the opening!

Plain Jane Ice Cream

Ready to cool down with a scoop or two of ice cream? A new ice cream parlour is opening called ‘Plain Jane’ – though we’re betting their flavours are anything but plain!
According to the business’ most recent Instagram post, Plain Jane Ice Cream aims to officially open its doors on Monday, July 15th.

June on Cambie
While details on this spot are limited, June on Cambie is the newest cocktail-forward venture by the team behind The Keefer Bar – so we’re expecting great things!
