This lakeside village in BC is home to a historic downtown & dome cottages

With another long weekend in sight in a few weeks’ time, now is a great time to plan your next fall road trip. Situated near BC’s ‘Valley of the Ghosts,’ the small village of New Denver is the perfect place to enjoy lake and mountainside views, and brush up on the region’s complicated history.

The paired towns of New Denver and Silverton are situated on the shores of East Slocan Lake. According to Arrow Slocan Tourism, both offer visitors the chance to roam a restored historical downtown. In New Denver, the streets are lined with heritage homes and public parks, as well as a 100-year-old former Bank of Montreal building on Main Street.

The New Denver Orchard serves as a stark reminder of the internment of Japanese Canadians during WWII. Visitors can learn more about those affected through experiential museums like the Nikkei Internment Memorial Centre, which strives to share the stories of internees.

And if you’re looking for somewhere cozy to stay, consider checking out one of New Denver’s Adventure Domes – a collection of four picturesque, eco-friendly cottages shaped like domes, surrounded by beautiful gardens between the Selkirk and Valhalla mountains.

Currently, there is availability throughout November and December, and domes start at $150 per night for two adults.
