North America’s best ski town is in BC & it’s known for its guided backcountry adventures

With extensive mountain biking trails, a vibrant arts & culture scene, and an award-winning farmer’s market, there are so many reasons to visit the town of Nelson in BC. Situated amidst the Selkirk Mountains, Nelson offers visitors plenty to do and see, from summer markets to backcountry winter adventures. And you can’t do much better than North America’s best ski town – a title that the small town has earned on multiple occasions, according to Nelson and Kootenay Lake Tourism.

Every year, Nelson’s deep, powdery snow and backcountry tours attract pro skiers, snowboarders, heli-skiers, and ski-touring enthusiasts from across the globe.

What’s more, Nelson is the birthplace of Cat Skiing, which was made possible by ski hill grooming techniques created in 1975 by Selkirk Wilderness (now Selkirk Snowcat Skiing). As such, visitors can access breathtaking backcountry scenery and fresh powder via operators like Selkirk Snowcat Skiing, Baldface Lodge and Valhalla, Retallack, and White Grizzly.

As well, the award-winning Whitewater Ski Resort offers visitors an incomparable ski and snowboard experience for the whole family to enjoy.

Visitors can also sip on over 100 local craft beers available on tap, explore Nelson’s specialty and boutique stores, and check out its historic downtown, which contains over 350 restored heritage buildings.

So there you have it, BC! Get ready for what is sure to be another exciting ski season in Nelson.
