The end of the month is fast approaching and with it, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
This year, just like those before it, September 30th will be a day reserved for learning, showing the Indigenous community support and honouring the many children forced to enrol in the Canadian residential school system.
How and where can you observe this important event in Edmonton? Here are just a few ways that you can participate in 2023.

Featuring talented dancers, a panel and bannock, Edmonton’s Bend Arrow Traditional Healing Society has organized. 3 hours of programming to commemorate this year’s National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This particular event will be free to attend.

Orange Shirt Day Walk and RunÂ
In an effort to raise funds for local grassroots movements, Edmontonians are encouraged to take part in the third annual Orange Shirt Day Walk and Run. To register visit the link above. Good Luck and stay hydrated.

Mother Earth Pop-up Market
Looking to support local Indigenous businesses? Attend this year’s Mother Earth Pop-up market and shop arts, crafts, clothing and food.

Orange Shirt Day Community WalkÂ

Organized by Standing Together, Edmontonians are welcome to join this year’s walk honouring survivors, both living and no longer with us. Orange shirts and bagged lunches will be provided free of charge to all participants.

Orange Shirt Day at TELUS World of Science
This year, visit the Telus World of Science in Edmonton for a day of song, dance and workshops. In addition to offering all Indigenous guests FREE admission, this event will also feature an Indigenous-owned market, activities and performances.

As always, it’s important to note that nothing will ever truly make up for everything the Indigenous community has gone through, but it’s necessary that we try, so please – do what you can.
