While the second season of HBO’s The Last Of Us will not be filmed in Wild Rose Country, we think it’s safe to say that our province has made quite the mark on the film industry and a few notable actors. From Netflix and Amazon Prime to FX – major production companies and prestigious networks have taken quite a liking to Alberta – and it’s clear why!

Not only do we have incredibly talented artists, crews and rental companies we’ve got a stunning backdrop that has been featured in shows like Fargo and several award-winning films such as The Revenant and Interstellar and this spring is no exception.

BILLY THE KID SEASON 2

They’re back! Based on the true story of the real-life gunslinger and cowboy, Billy The Kid is back for a second season and will be filmed in Alberta this Month. Starring Daniel Webber (The Dirt) Eileen O’Higgins (The Irregulars) Sean Owen Roberts (Brand New Cherry Flavour), and Dakota Daulby (The 100), keep an eye out for action, excitement and drama.

HEARTLAND

A multi-generational saga about family, Heartland starring Amber Marshall (Resident Evil) and Graham Wardle (Supernatural), is currently filming its 17th season here in Alberta. From High River to the Cowboy Trail, this long-running CBC original has covered a ton of ground in and around the province – although the majority of the show is shot at a Ranch in Millarville about 40 minutes from Calgary.

THE ORDER

Starring Jude Law (Fantastic Beasts) and Nicholas Hoult (The Great) ‘The Order,’ is a crime thriller based on the crimes committed by a domestic terrorist group called The Silent Brotherhood. Directed by Justin Kurzel (Macbeth) and written by Zach Baylin (King Richard), the production is set to take place in Alberta this month.

THE ABANDONS

Described as a “Western action drama,” The Abadons, will follow a group of ‘diverse and atypical families’ who are driven out of their homes by a corrupt force of wealth and power” and will be made up of 10 episodes in season 1. As of right now, it’s unclear who will star in the project, but Kurt Sutter (best known for Sons of Anarchy and Mayans M.C.) will act as the show’s producer and showrunner when they get things rolling this June.

BODYCAM


Known only as “Bodycam” on ACTRA, not much has been made public about this project. After a little digging on social media, however – we can tell you that the upcoming Brandon Christensen (Still/Born) film will be bloody and will star Keegan Connor Tracy (Once Upon A Time, Final Destination) and Jaime M. Callica (Ruthless).
