Scenic mountain skating spots that you can only find in Alberta

It’s skating season in Alberta, and while there’s no shortage of magical activities you can enjoy in the Rockies when it’s finally cold enough, there are few things better than taking a lap around the ice. Not sure where to go or where to go? We’ve got you!
Here are just a few dreamy spots where you can bring your skates, elbow pads, and friends this winter.
Vermillion Lakes
While this lake isn’t perfectly even, the beautiful spot is one in Ver-million. Want to check it out?
Those who visit should avoid the east area of the dock but are in for a scenic experience. You’ll find this particular area just west of Mt. Norquay.

Lake Minnewanka
Lake Minnewanka is unlike any other! In addition to offering incredible sights, the area is also the site of an underwater ghost town.
Due to its size and depth, we wouldn’t recommend skating on it until the middle of the winter, but you can definitely check it out when it’s frozen solid.
Our advice? Just stay close to the shores or bring an extra pair of boots to the ice. Skating against the wind on this particular lake can be pretty tough.
