These Canadian companies were named among the most sustainable in the world

Just before the year ends, four Canadian companies have been named in the 2022 Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) World report, ranking alongside hundreds of organizations for their sustainability efforts. And that’s not to mention the handful of companies making its North American list, too.

The DJSI report ranks companies’ sustainability performance through three categories which are Environmental, Social, and Governance & Economic. The different industry groups that made the world list include automobiles, banks, capital goods, media & entertainment, food & beverage, real estate, and more.

Out of the hundreds listed, only four Canadian names made the global list, and here’s who:

  • TD Bank
  • Teck Resources Limited
  • Canadian National Railway Company
  • Canadian Pacific Railway Limited

Though big wins for Canada on a worldwide scale, we also had a few companies make the North American list – 18 of them to be exact.

Based on the same three categories, the following North American companies were named the top sustainable in N.A:

  • Bank of Montreal
  • CIBC
  • RBC
  • The Bank of Nova Scotia
  • TD Bank
  • Gildan Activewear Inc.
  • Restaurant Brands International Inc.
  • Enbridge Inc.
  • Suncor Energy Inc.
  • Manulife Financial Corporation
  • Sun Life Financial Inc
  • Teck Resources Limited
  • Canadian Tire
  • CGI
  • Open Text Corporation
  • Telus
  • Canadian National Railway Company
  • Canadian Pacific Railway Limited

Now companies and also Canadian universities have been ranked for their sustainability efforts. Back in October, Quacquarelli Symonds released its inaugural QS World University Rankings: Sustainability, which evaluates how universities are taking action to tackle the world’s most pressing issues such as the environment and social issues. Three Canadian educational institutions made the top 20.

Though when it comes to companies, we do have a ton of Canadian organizations listed, there could be more. Well, at least we have another year to improve!
