Canadian passport ranked among most powerful in the world for 2023

It’s good to be a Canadian citizen. Why, you ask? Because by being Canadian, you possess one of the most powerful passports in the world for 2023.

The first Henley Passport Index report of the year has been released and once again, Canada has claimed a top spot on the ranking.

The report is released quarterly and ranks all the world’s 199 passports according to the number of destinations that their holders can access without a prior visa.

The Henley Passport Index is based on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Authority (IATA) and is rigorously researched to ensure accuracy.

In the final report of 2022, Canada received a power ranking of 5. Canadians can visit 170 destinations visa-free with their passport.

In the report released on January 10th, 2023, Canada’s passport has earned itself a rank of 8 with a total of 185 destinations that passport-holders can visit.

Canada shares its 8th place ranking with several other countries — Australia, Greece, and Malta.

By comparison, the U.S. lands in 7th place along with Switzerland, Norway, New Zealand, the Czech Republic, and Belgium.

The United Kingdom has the 6th most powerful passport in the world along with Portugal, Ireland, and France.
