Are you and your furry friend absolutely inseparable? It’s time to go on an adventure and this time, make sure to bring your pup with you. This Ontario park is known for its sandy beaches and its leash-free dog parkland. Mikisew Provincial Park is next on our radar and here’s what to do when you visit.
Just about a three-hour drive, north of Toronto, is Mikisew Provincial Park. This relaxing and pet-friendly parkland offers plenty of space to enjoy all outdoor activities. From canoeing and kayaking to disc golf and stand-up paddle boarding, whether you’re there to enjoy some outdoor fun or to simply dip your toes in one of the three beaches, there are a ton of opportunities to explore.
Ever played disc golf? Well now is your chance. There’s a nine and 18-hole course for both beginners and intermediate players. You can either rent the discs or purchase them at the Park Office.

If a peaceful hiking adventure is calling your name, there are four interconnected loops that guide you through forests and wetlands – Old Dog Trail, a short 800 m trek; Lakeview Trail, 300 m; Maple Canyon Trail, 2.3 km and Beaver Meadow Trail, 2 km.
Ready to cool off? Hit the water with a rental or your own board, and paddle around the small islands on Eagle Lake. Mikisew Provincial Park offers rentals for paddleboards, canoes, and kayaks for whatever suits your fancy.
End off by jumping into one of its three sand beaches found along the shoreline of Eagle Lake. The North Beach and Centre Beach are located in the Hardwoods Campground and the day-use beach is located in the day-use area.
But that’s not all! There’s one more beach and it’s specifically made for dogs.
Let your best four-legged friend run wild at the leash-free dog park and fenced beach. The pet exercise area is located in the day-use part of the park so it should not be hard to find.
According to Ontario Parks, the cost of a Day Use permit depends on the time of the year whether it be on or off-season, and by park. Entry fees for vehicles start at $12.25. “For park-specific fees, please contact the park directly.”
Mikisew Provincial Park is open now until October 10, 2023.
