If you love country music, the city of Merritt in the BC interior should definitely be on your road trip map this year. Situated in BC’s Gold Country, Merritt is home to the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame, as well as other venues and symbols representing its rich music and film scenes. Let’s get into it!

In addition to seeing the Hall of Fame, visitors can check out the Walk of Stars (70+ handprints and one footprint) and the Michelle Loughery Murals, both of which honour the Canadian and international country music stars to grace the city.

While there is no shortage of venues that set the stage, Spirit Square is at the centre, welcoming everyone from Keith Urban to Carrie Underwood.

As well, Merritt has been the backdrop of many films over the years, including some pretty big productions. From Jurassic World: Dominion to Smallville, here are just some of the notable movies filmed in the Merritt area, according to the City of Merritt:

  • Jurassic World: Dominion (2020) – Chris Pratt
  • Tomato Red (2017) – (Winter’s Bone)
  • The Wolf’s Music (2014) (in Lower Nicola)
  • The Wicker Man (2006) – Nicolas Cage
