A new Asian grocery store with a juice bar & open kitchen is opening in Metro Vancouver

Guess what, Metro Vancouver? We’re about to get a new one-stop shop for all of our grocery needs. Family-owned and operated Georgia Main Food Group is launching its first-ever Asian grocery store called ‘Meiga’ (translates to ‘beautiful family’), and it promises to be a unique grocery shopping experience.

Georgia Main Food Group

Dating back to 1903 with H.Y. Louie Company at the corner of Georgia and Main Street, the local food company has long been a powerhouse of the grocery industry in Vancouver and beyond. The parent company of IGA and Fresh St. Market, GMFG certainly knows its way around creating a successful, trusted grocery brand, and it looks like Meiga Supermarket will be no exception.

“With deep, local, and trusted roots going back 120 years, we are set to redefine the Asian grocery store experience with Meiga Supermarket,” says Gary Sorensen, Chief Operating Officer of Georgia Main Food Group. “Meiga will offer quality Asian products in an atmosphere of discovery where new, authentic, and exclusively sourced products are part of our customers’ everyday shopping.”

Some products shoppers can expect to find on Meiga’s shelves include fresh produce and meats, a fresh bakery, a juice bar, and an open kitchen. The latter will serve up ready-to-eat hot foods like traditional Chinese take-away specialties, Cantonese BBQ, RWA beef and pork, hot pot, and sushi.

So if you’re looking to discover new Asian foods and ways of cooking, sit tight. Meiga is launching its first store in Port Moody early on in the new year, with plans for expansion over the next three to five years.

As always, stay tuned for more info as it comes, including an official opening date.
