In case you’re looking for another reason to hang out in Gastown this summer, there’s a new pop-up festival hitting the cobblestone streets this month: “Meet Me in Gastown.” Get ready for a free community celebration, complete with live music, outdoor games, and even a light show!
“It’s been a challenging few years, so it’s been amazing to bring our local communities together to celebrate summer with Gastown Thursday Nights with friends and family, support local businesses and provide a safe, fun space to enjoy the artistic and cultural talents of Vancouver,” says Walley Wargolet, Executive Director of the Gastown Business Improvement Society (GBIS).

Live music + outdoor games
As far as musical performances go, visitors can expect several pop-up concerts throughout the evening. First up are several performances by local artists accompanied by outdoor games like giant Jenga, building blocks, and a beanbag toss scattered around Maple Tree Square. Rocky Riobo Duo will perform vintage jazz, Lenny and Pete will play a mix of rock, blues, and country, and Leela will strum her guitar outside of Steamworks.
The night will end with a performance by the Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra as well as an immersive light show, so bring some layers and get ready to be amazed! Pro-tip: Grab some takeout from participating Gastown restos like Monarca or Local and watch the orchestra and light show from 7 to 9:30 pm.
Mark your calendars for Thursday, August 25th – and head to Carrall Street Laneway and Maple Tree Square! We’ll see you there, Vancouver.
