It’s officially the season of giving., folks! And when it comes to giving back to the community, McDonald’s Canada has been walking the walk all year round- across the country and right here in Calgary.

Sure, it has been serving up some of the most iconic burgers to us all along. But the oh-so-iconic brand and its independent franchises have also been living their purpose of feeding and fostering our communities

And now with our help, McDonald’s Canada and its independent franchisees will be donating up to 500,000 meals to Canadians in need through Food Banks Canada this holiday season as part of their ambition to provide approximately 1 million meals every year to Canadians in need.

Through The Giving Page, every unique visit to the website equalled one meal donated to Food Banks Canada, supporting Canadians in need.

As part of their mission to help Canadian communities where they need it most, McDonald’s Canada has been supporting programs and initiatives that care for Albertan families in need. And in the process, they are inspiring the spirit of giving in us too.

ICYMI, here are some ways they did that in the past year alone—

  • Alberta raised more than $680,000 on McHappy Day for Ronald McDonald House Charities Alberta and other local children’s charities
  • Matching McHappy Day funds from Edmonton McDonald’s franchisees provided $3,000 per year for a student meal program at a local school
  • $5,000 was donated to the Siksika Nation to support funding a bus that would allow transport into Strathmore
  • Guests in Red Deer helped raise $2,500 for the Canadian Cancer Society and another $1,100 for the Alberta Cancer Foundation
  • Coaldale helped raise funds for a new recreation centre, Drayton Valley helped raise funds for the Drayton Valley Aquatics Centre, and Taber helped contribute funding for the Taber Bike Park Pump Track & Skills Park, all through their local McDonald’s restaurants
