Famous Japanese noodle restaurant to open first Canadian location in Vancouver

Who’s ready to check out a new udon spot this weekend? Among the most anticipated restaurant openings of the season is the acclaimed Japanese noodle restaurant, Marugame Udon, which has been in the works in Vancouver for a while now. Known for its authentic Sanuki-style udon, the restaurant marks the brand’s first-ever location in Canada – and you don’t have long to wait to check it out!

The new 80-seat udon spot will serve up delicious hand-crafted udon, tempura, and rice bowls. The cherry on top? Diners will be able to watch as their food is being prepared from a live kitchen.

“The wait is over. I am so pleased to be announcing the opening of our Vancouver location, marking Marugame Udon’s first debut in Canada,” says Victor Hisao Misawa, President of Marugame Udon International.

Best of all? Diners who visit on the restaurant’s opening day receive a complimentary serving of Marugame’s renowned tempura with every bowl purchased.

As well, Misawa reveals that the global brand will host a grand opening celebration known as the Marugame Matsuri (festival in Japanese) this March to formally welcome guests.

“It will be a great honour to be present for this momentous occasion and I look forward to welcoming our guests and sharing the unique Marugame experience with this culturally vibrant, west-coast community.”

Sanuki-style udon

Drawing on centuries-old traditions in the Kagawa Prefecture in Japan, Sanuki-style udon is one of the most popular varieties in Japan, known for its distinctly thick and chewy noodles and fragrant soup stock.

At Marugame, guests can expect to find some of the restaurant’s most beloved udon dishes, including Kake Udon, Nikutama, and Kitsune.

Opening & info

Marugame Udon will open in downtown Vancouver on Saturday, February 24th. Diners can check it out seven days a week thereafter, from 11 am to 9 pm every day.

So there you have it, Vancouver! Time to warm up with a delicious bowl of udon this weekend.
