This enchanting BC park has winding trails through a forest of 800-year-old trees

Beautiful British Columbia has no shortage of towering trees and fresh air, but Cathedral Grove in MacMillan Provincial Park is among the most picturesque.

With a network of trails under ancient pillars described as being “untouched by the modern world,” these forests are home to foliage that is more than 800 years old.

“The park protects and preserves an internationally significant representative example of Douglas fir old-growth forest within the Coastal Western Hemlock Biogeoclimatic Zone,” explains BC Parks.

“Trails on either side of the highway lead visitors through the mighty stands of this coastal forest.”

On the south side of the park, you’ll find trunks measuring more than 9 metres in circumference and on the northern side of the road, you’ll find red cedars overlooking Cameron Lake.

Want to check it out?

MacMillan Provincial Park is located three hours west of Vancouver and has several routes that allow visitors to take in the scenery.

Please be advised that some trails were closed after a severe windstorm in 1997 that toppled hundreds of large trees onto walkways and have yet to reopen.

What is left, however, is still quite the sight, so check them out.

You’re in for quite the treat!

Happy visiting!
