This 39-foot waterfall surrounded by rolling hills is one of the best in Alberta

If you’re seeking adventure this winter, Lundbreck Falls in Alberta should be on your snowy season hit list.

While there are some wildly picture-perfect destinations from High Level to Cardston, Lundbreck is among the ‘best frozen waterfalls’ in the province.

Located south of Calgary, this 39-foot waterfall is surrounded by rocky cliffs, rolling hills, and rugged beauty, but looks even more incredible when frozen in time.

“Lundbreck Falls are named after the neighbouring hamlet. Lundbreck, with a whopping population of 236, started as a coal mining town in 1907,” Travel Alberta explains.

“Situate yourself either from an observation platform or at the base of the falls in the limestone gorge. It’s all less than 1 km (0.6 mi) from the Lundbreck Falls Recreation Area.”

Want to take it all in? As mentioned, you’ve got options! Here guests are encouraged to take it all in from the comfort of their vehicle, on the observation deck, or hike down into the canyon.

If you’ve got proper footwear, keep your eyes open for the interpretive signs along the way, which explain the area’s ancient history and fossil record.

What else is in the area?

If you’ve got more time to spend, consider exploring the area as there’s plenty to see!

Whether it be the famous Burmis Tree, Frank Slide, or the hamlet itself, no shortage of exciting experiences await you.

Heck, maybe consider taking Highway 22 (or the Cowboy Trail) on the way there and really get your gas worth!

Along this particular route, you’ll also see Canada’s Rocky Mountain Foothills, Western-themed attractions, accommodations, farms and ranches – it really is something else!
