This trail winds past a steam-powered tugboat in the middle of an Ontario park

Algonquin Park is one of Ontario’s most popular outdoor destinations. In any season, it’s a wonderful, natural escape, but in the summer, it’s one of the best times to explore its more than 100 kilometres of hiking trails. Among them is a unique route that leads hikers past a historic locomotive and an old steam-powered tugboat hidden in the forest. Ready for this adventure?

What to know about Algonquin Park

The park is about three and a half hours northeast of Toronto. It’s known for its camping, fishing, boating, canoeing and wildlife spotting opportunities. Algonquin is a must-visit if you have not yet explored it.

Not only is it the first provincial park in Ontario, but it is also one of the largest. Though it’s an all-season park with a ton of activities to enjoy, we’re here to talk about one of its unique trails.

Trails to explore

There are several paths that connect, leading to the park having 14 interpretive trails, but over 20 individually named trails.

They range from easy, short walks to hours-long, strenuous commutes. Needless to say, come prepared for any hike. But if we needed to pick just one trail you need to explore, it’s the Logging Museum Trail.

Logging Museum Trail

According to Ontario Parks, this trail is described as a walking outdoor museum. It’s 1.3 km long and serves as a fun, interactive trail, great for kids too.

Though stunning greenery surrounds you, there are a couple of sights that may seem out of the ordinary along this trail.

There’s a stable, sleighs and even a steam-powered tugboat named “Aligator”.

You’ll also find a locomotive that can be explored. According to the parks, the trail summarizes the logging history of the Algonquin area.

And the best part about this trail is that it’s wheelchair and stroller-friendly.

So if you’re a history buff and love some outdoor adventures, maybe a trip to Algonquin Park is in order.

After all, there’s lots to explore!
