Take note, shoppers! This week, those headed to their local Loblaw will not want to leave their reusable bags at home because single-use plastic is out and environmentally conscious decisions are in.

According to a recent press release, Real Canadian Superstore, Your Independent Grocer, Real Canadian Liquor Store, Extra Foods and PC Express locations will transition away from non-reusable options starting Thursday, February 16th, 2023.

“We are a purpose-led organization, with a goal to help Canadians live life well. Our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint is an important part of that,” said Robert Sawyer, Chief Operating Officer, Loblaw Companies Limited in a press release.

“Our efforts to remove single-use plastic bags from our stores have already resulted in 13 billion fewer bags going to landfill. But we know there’s more work to be done.”

Of course, if you’re in need of an extra bag or two after you’ve done your shopping – a variety of reusable alternatives will still be available at checkout lanes so don’t fret. These will include the iconic black PC reusable bag and PC reusable totes.

Change can be good, Alberta – especially when it’s in favour of the environment. Come prepared and get shopping!

It won’t be long until this is the norm!
