You know us! We’re always on the lookout for fun activities to brighten up the winter months. Now, we all have the perfect reason to dress warm and get out there – Enter: Light the Night, An Illuminated Night Walk.

As the name states, the illuminated walk is a beautiful art-based light display. Only this isn’t your regular festive light extravaganza. Light the Night is a rich and unique storytelling experience that is said to take inspiration from Currie’s vibrant energy, rich heritage and celebrates their connection with the Indigenous peoples.

Why Currie? Currie, formerly known as Currie Barracks is Calgary’s vibrant inner-city community being brought to life by award-winning national developer Canada Lands Company. Currie embraces its historic location and proximity to downtown Calgary to help create memorable experiences for residents and visitors alike.

Until March 18th, Light the Night welcomes guests to wander through the newly opened, forested Woodlands Area of Alexandria Park in the heart of Currie.

The walk will feature seven beautiful light installations that will illuminate winding pathways with more than 30 individual light pieces including lanterns, projections, and suspended artworks created by two of Alberta’s highly acclaimed artists Dylan Toymaker and Adrian Stimson. The installations promise to take you on a whimsical journey through winter while presenting an awe-inspiring narrative of Currie’s military history and connection with the Indigenous peoples.

Picture yourself walking through the lit-up winding trails of the Woodlands Area amidst its heritage trees in a peaceful naturalized space. Don’t know about you, but we sure are starting to feel the winter magic.

Best part, it’s free! Light the Night is pet friendly and family friendly. You can walk the gorgeous pathways from Friday, January 13th to Sunday, March 18th, 2023.
