There’s nothing better than being home for the holidays. There’s the smell of baking, the sound of carols, and the twinkling glow of Christmas lights.

And speaking of lights, this local neighbourhood isn’t messing around. The community of Legacy in SE Calgary has decked the (outside) halls for the season, and you can check it out for free!

Legacy is a neighbourhood in SE Calgary with homes for every family and budget. It’s situated on a vast 300-acre environmental reserve with ample green space, 5 different playgrounds, 15km of walking paths, a community garden, and public art throughout. It’s a great place to call home, and they’ve pulled out all the stops for Christmas.

Enter Legacy Lights.

Christmas is when this community really steals the show. From the start of December to mid-January, Legacy becomes one of the brightest places in Calgary, boasting over 1 million holiday lights and displays as part of their Legacy Lights event.

It’s a magical experience – especially when set against the beautiful backdrop of rolling hills and expansive pathways. You can drive through the community, tour a decorated show home, or walk along the lit-up streets, parks, and tunnels of lights. If you’ve got your skates ready, the Legacy skating rink opens to the public on December 15, weather permitting.

Whether you live nearby or just feel like passing through, Legacy Lights is a fun, free experience without the massive crowds of other public light displays. That means you can star in all of your Instagram pictures… ?
