Ontario is giving free tuition to college & university students in these programs

More students are now eligible for free tuition in Ontario. The province has expanded the Learn and Stay grant, allowing students in more programs to get their education costs covered by the government.

The program, which was initially launched for nursing students last year, now includes students in paramedic and medical laboratory technologist programs in specific parts of Ontario.

Here’s how it works. Students in these programs can apply to receive full, upfront funding for all their schooling costs, including tuition, books, and other educational tools like supplies and equipment.

In return, students must work in their region of study for a minimum of six months for every year of funding they receive.

This spring, students in these programs and regions can apply for the Learn and Stay grant:

  • Nursing programs in northern, eastern and southwestern Ontario
  • Medical laboratory technologist/medical laboratory sciences programs in northern and southwestern Ontario
  • Paramedic programs in northern Ontario

This application is for the 2023-24 school year and there are 2,500 spots available.

Students must be Canadian citizens in order to be eligible. In addition to the grant, students can apply for OSAP to cover living expenses.

The grants are available to students in diploma, advanced diploma, undergraduate, masters and post-graduate programs.

There are dozens of eligible college and university programs across Ontario and you can see a complete list of them here.

According to the province, the goal of this program is to ensure that underserved communities are getting the critical healthcare support that they need.

With nurses being among the most in-demand jobs in Ontario right now, these financial incentives can go a long way.
