These are the best lake towns in BC to see beautiful fall foliage

As vibrant autumn colours begin to blanket British Columbia in deep reds, golds, and yellows, we’re craving a road trip to one of the province’s many charming small towns – and if there’s a lake involved, even better! So if you want to get out of the city for a bit, consider visiting one of these beautiful lake towns with breathtaking fall foliage.

Nakusp

Situated in the Selkirk Mountains in southeast BC, the town of Nakusp is truly a hidden gem, complete with stunning lakes, forests, and mineral-rich hot springs to explore. Visitors can unwind at a number of private hot springs or check out several public pools and spas, as well as spend the day at the nearby Arrow Lake.

Lake Cowichan

Situated on Vancouver Island on the east end of Cowichan Lake, this charming town has all the trappings of a fantastic fall destination. Cozy rustic cabins, historic landmarks, plentiful fishing opportunities, and a picturesque lake,  – all within 90 minutes from Victoria!

Osoyoos

Home to a rapidly growing wine and horticulture scene, Osoyoos has plenty to enjoy when it comes to food and beverage, in addition to traditional lake day activities no matter the season.

Our advice? Check out Row Fourteen restaurant at Klippers Organic Acres for delicious bites and cider, and hit up these wineries in the Similkameen Valley before going for a fall dip in the lake – which happens to be one of the warmest in Canada!

Naramata

Also situated on Okanagan Lake is Naramata – a hotspot for wine enthusiasts and beach lovers alike. Located along the southeast shore of Okanagan Lake, the town also has hundreds of trails to offer hikers as well as endless opportunities for water activities.

Invermere

With close access to both Lake Windermere and the Rocky Mountains, Invermere is a top spot for outdoor enthusiasts, though this one’s a bit of a trek from Vancouver – at an approximate nine-hour drive. But if you’re going for a weekend getaway, this relaxed, friendly town should be at the top of your list!

Lillooet

Although not technically a town per se, the District of Lillooet is well worth the four-hour-or-so trip out from Vancouver. Beautiful scenery, great food, and some of the best camping options in the province, which is a sentiment we don’t take likely in a place as beautiful as BC.

Nelson

Located on the shores of Kootenay Lake, Nelson is a town with tons of character and charm, which can largely be attributed to its bustling local arts scene. Surrounded by the Selkirk Mountains, you’ll definitely have beautiful views to admire while you peruse the local downtown shops.

Harrison Hot Springs

Just a 90-minute drive from Vancouver, Harrison Hot Springs is a classic road trip destination for a reason. Whether it’s lounging at the mineral pools at the Hot Springs Resort & Spa, or golfing at The Falls Golf Club, you’ll find plenty of fun here, all against a pretty fall backdrop.

And that’s a wrap on some charming lake towns to visit in BC this fall!
