This charming small town in B.C. has a ‘Mediterranean-like’ climate year-round

It turns out you don’t have to hop on a plane for a taste of the Mediterranean this summer! The charming seaside town of Ladysmith, British Columbia happens to boast a “Mediterranean-like climate” year-round, with warm, sunny summers and mild winters. So we think a trip is definitely in order!

Famous for its scenic views, historic walking trails, heritage buildings, and array of swimming and paddling opportunities, there’s no shortage of things to do in Ladysmith.

Ladysmith’s history

At the heart of the small town is First Avenue, one of Canada’s Great Streets, combining Edwardian buildings with industrial-era artifacts and modern-day boutiques and parks.

The town’s first inhabitants were the people of the Stz’uminus First Nation, who established fishing camps throughout the harbour area for thousands of years.

Despite being usurped of their land, the Stz’uminus peoples continue to practice their traditional lifestyle within the reserves now bordering Ladysmith, working with the Town to restore the Harbour to its original glory.

Visitors can take a Harbour Tour or go straight for a dip or kayak journey in the Salish Sea,

The growing community of Ladysmith is situated 88 km (55 miles) north of Victoria and 23 km (14 miles) south of Nanaimo.

So there you have it, trip enthusiasts! For a taste of the Mediterranean right here in BC, you know where to head.

Happy exploring!
