After a wild and tumultuous 2025 for Kits Pool, the City of Vancouver has announced its opening plans for the year, as well as what the future might hold for the ailing swim spot.
The City says it’s targeting mid-June for the opening date, following the completion of some seasonal maintenance and “final inspections.”
If you recall, back in 2025, one of the biggest storylines of the summer was some concerns over the booking system at Kits Pool. It led to some changes to how folks could book time at the pool.
Pre-season work that the City is currently engaged in includes assessing the pool’s condition and repairing its pipes and basin. After the repairs are complete, the pool will be filled, water treated, and heated. After that, there will be another inspection by the health authority before it’s ready to serve the public.
The City says that the pool has reached the “end of its functional life” due to there being some deteriorating components, along with a history of storm damage, adding to the “complexity of its opening each season.”
When it comes to what the future looks like for Kits Pool, the City of Vancouver has laid out three specific options:
“Staff will look to a final decision from the Park Board on priority setting and Council on overall funding as part of the 2027-2030 Capital Plan approval process later this spring prior to advancing this work further,” the City adds.
