Way back when it first opened, we talked about Kitoki Inn opening up shop on Bowen Island. And now that spring is just around the corner, we think it’s a good time to revisit it! If you’re hoping to be in the know about staycation options, then this is a can’t-miss spot.
Kitoki Inn is a collection of three self-contained cabins, backing onto a forested area. Each cabin is outfitted with a queen-sized bed, a built-in rainshower, and a kitchenette. And if you need evening activities, don’t worry, since there’s free Wi-Fi and a shared library of books, games and puzzles.

Maybe the biggest draw, though, is the nearby bathhouse inspired by traditional Japanese onsen (hot springs). Overlooking the forest, this open-air spa features a hot-tub, a hydrotherapy shower, and an outdoor garden near the wood-burning fire pit.
Done in cedar and with Japanese minimalism in mind, the inn is a fantastic blend of design and function. While the cabins and the bathhouse are beautiful, guests are encouraged to explore the island’s hiking trails and lakes, or the nearby town (which is a mere 1.5km away).
Now, the bad news. Like with most coveted destinations, this private little getaway spot is more or less booked solid for the foreseeable future. Perhaps you can phone them up and see if you can sneak in if someone cancels. Better to get out there now than when Conde Nast or something covers it. At that point, you’ll be looking at years of waiting, not months.
