Ontario’s clearest sapphire lakes are hidden inside this park

Lake swimming doesn’t get better than this. If you want to take a dip in the clearest lakes that our province has to offer, Killarney Provincial Park is where it’s at.

Ontario Parks says that Killarney is home to “over 50 exceptionally clear, sapphire lakes set among Jack Pine hills.”

The scenery is so captivating that it has inspired the work of great artists, namely The Group of Seven’s A.Y. Jackson, Franklin Carmichael, and A.J. Casso.

This incredible wilderness landscape spans 645 square kilometres.

You’ll be treated to awe-inspiring views of the wild pink granite of the Georgian Bay Coast and the La Cloche Mountains’ white quartzite ridges.

But, the real draw is, of course, the lakes.

As you now know, there are many to see and explore at Killarney Provincial Park. Some lakes are widely considered to be the most beautiful and worth visiting.

The aqua-blue waters you must cross off your list include:

  • O.S.A. Lake
  • Nellie Lake
  • Topaz Lake
  • Balsam Lake
  • Killarney Lake

Of these lakes, our favourites are definitely Topaz Lake and Nellie Lake.

Topaz Lake is as vivid and breathtaking as the gemstone itself. Set against the backdrop of lush forests and mountain ranges, this turquoise body of water is truly a sight to behold.

Nellie Lake is nestled among white quartzite landscapes and is so beautiful that A.Y. Jackson created a painting of it.

The waters are unbelievably clear and are perfect for a refreshing dip after a challenging hike and paddle.

Outdoor adventures are calling, and you won’t regret putting Killarney Provincial Park at the top of your bucket list.
