5 JUNO Moments You’ll Never Forget: A Look Back at the Awards’ Most Memorable Moments

Monday, March 13, 2023, is going to be this year’s most epic night. Why? Well, because that’s when Canada’s largest and most prestigious music event will unfold at Edmonton’s Rogers Place. We are talking, of course, about The 2023 JUNO Awards!

With everything we know about the upcoming ceremony so far, our excitement is through the roof. Be it the recently released nomination list with The Weeknd topping that list with six entries. Or the performances by four-time winner Jessie Reyez, first-time JUNO Award nominee Aysanabee, rock group Alexisonfire and more. Or Nickelback’s induction into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. Or Simu Liu’s return as host for the second year in a row.

With every tiny detail, the wait is officially getting harder. But with a few more weeks of anticipation ahead of us, we decided to take a trip down memory lane. Here’s looking at 5 of the most memorable moments from the JUNOS’ past—

Shania Twain Inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame (2011)

Shania being inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame by fellow inductee, Bryan Adams, is one of our all-time fave videos to watch. Not just because this Queen of Country Pop deserves it but because her Canadian pride speech melts our hearts every single time.

Sarah McLachlan SPCA Ad Spoof (2019)

Sarah McLachlan’s SPCA spoof for the 2019 JUNOS broke us into laughs harder than her original ads made us tear up. And with this hilarious spoof, the gorgeous host of the 48th annual awards went down as a legend in JUNO history.

Shawn Mendes speech for International Achievement Award (2022)

Shawn Mendes giving us life lessons on self-love and self-worth on the 2022 JUNOS stage will forever be our best memory of this talented artist. And his “I’m enough” speech will continue to inspire us.

Nickelback wins Juno Fan Choice (2004)

The iconic Canadian rock band is certainly no stranger to the statuette. They have received a total of 12 over the years. But their humble acceptance speech for their first JUNO Fan Choice Award is certainly a moment to remember. This year’s JUNOS will feature a performance by Nickelback to celebrate their Canadian Music Hall of Fame Induction presented by JUNOS premier sponsor TD.

Simu Liu performs Complicated Parody (2022)

A lot marked Liu’s success as the host of The 2022 JUNO Awards. His raging popularity, his killer good looks, his fierce fuchsia suit, his on-point punch lines AND his epic performance of this “Complicated” parody in the presence of Avril Lavigne. No wonder he’s back for his second year hosting!

As fun as this look-back was, we don’t doubt that The 2023 JUNO Awards will bring along memorable moments of its own.  Tickets to The 2023 JUNO Awards on March 13th  are currently on sale and you can be there. Check out the link below to grab yours!
