Will there be snow in January? Here’s a look at Toronto’s weather forecast

It may officially be winter, but the weather has felt otherwise! If you’ve been waiting to break out your toboggans this winter you might have to wait a little bit longer. According to Environment Canada, “higher than normal temperatures” and mild weather will continue into January in Toronto and the GTA.

In an interview for Curiocity, Environment Canada gave an update on what residents of Toronto and the GTA can expect as the new year approaches.

Travelling over the weekend for the Christmas holidays? Be careful says Warning Preparedness Meteorologist Steven Flisfeder. He told us that Toronto could see rain with areas “more north at a small risk of flurries or freezing rain, especially in the mornings on the road.”

And while no snow is still reported over Christmas and New Year’s Eve Torontonians can expect the temperature, which has been “higher than normal” this time of year, to drop a little.

“Temperatures should drop around -1 to 0 the first week of January. Lake effect flurries could happen but don’t expect any snow to stick in the area. We are more likely to get rain.”

Steven also told Curiocity that even though the temperature is dropping, it’s still going to be above seasonal temps for January!

“So far December as a whole has been more mild than expected, and that trend will continue until the year ends. Into January we expect above seasonal all throughout the month, so more than likely prepare for temperatures to be higher than normal.”

Sounds like we won’t need our parkas for this weather just yet, Toronto!
