This expansive boardwalk in Ontario offers majestic fall views

It’s almost time to throw on our cozy sweaters and head out into the crisp autumn air! If you’re looking for the ultimate fall colour hike, you have to pay a visit to Island Lake Conservation Area.

Island Lake Conservation Area is located in the northeast region of Orangeville only an hour outside of Toronto.

This 300-hectare oasis allows you to “experience nature at its finest,” according to Orangeville’s tourism website.

Here you’ll find four seasons of outdoor recreation opportunities at the park’s lakes, forests, wetlands, and trails.

In the fall, the scenery transforms into a vibrant palette of orange, gold, and red leaves.

The best spot to enjoy these vibrant colours in all of their glory is on the Vicki Barron Lakeside Trail.

Vicki Barron Lakeside Trail is an expansive boardwalk trail that circles Island Lake and links to other local trails in Orangeville and Mono.

This is the park’s signature trail and it spans eight kilometres.

There are several resting spots along the way so you can catch scenic vistas and even spot wildlife, including loons, ospreys, ducks, turtles, frogs, and muskrats.

This trail also guides you along a lakeside bridge that’s not only peaceful but also picture-perfect.

This is the only trail that spans as long as it does, according to the Credit Valley Conservation Area.

There are four others that are fairly shorter and available to explore.

So, as the trees in Ontario begin to transform for the fall season, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better spot to enjoy them in all their autumn glory.

Fees

In order to access the Island Lake Conservation Area, you must pay the entry fee. Adults are priced at $7 while children aged six to 14 are $3.25.

The conservation area is open Monday to Friday from 7 AM to 9 PM and weekends/holidays from 6 AM to 9 PM.
