Ontario has a breathtaking 18-metre cascade with lookout points

Another Ontario adventure awaits! It’s time to head to the area of Owen Sound and chase waterfalls. This one in particular stands 18 metres high and is found within a conservation area. It’s considered one of the best-known and most visited in the region. Here’s what to know about Inglis Falls Conservation Area.

About a two-and-a-half-hour drive northwest of Toronto is where you’ll find the Inglis Falls Conservation Area. There are a handful of things to do in the area, such as exploring about 7.42 km of hiking trails, discovering a series of geological potholes, and fishing.

But the showstopper is the massive cascade beloved by all who visit — Inglis Falls.

Chasing waterfalls

According to Grey Sauble Conservation Authority, the falls were created by the Sydenham River meeting the edge of the Niagara Escarpment. And the erosive power of the water had “carved a deep gorge at the base of the falls.”

It’s known as “the best waterfalls in the area” and is the most visited at any time of year. It’s one of three waterfalls that surround the City of Owen Sound!

“On a clear day you can see down the valley into the City of Owen Sound and out to the Owen Sound harbour,” shares the conservation page.

There is something for everybody: a viewing platform for those unable to see over the stone wall, 7.42 km of trails of various difficulty, access to the Bruce Trail, more than 20 species of ferns, bird watching opportunities, a series of geological potholes, historical remains of a grist mill, washrooms, picnic facilities, and a visitor information centre.

In order to see the falls at one of the viewpoints, you must take the main trail.

The view is absolutely stunning and a peaceful experience if you’re hoping to get away from the busy city life.

It is important to note that access to the base of the falls is prohibited, and you can only see the falls from afar. Safety first.

Fee

According to the Inglis Falls Conservation Area, the daily rate for parking is $10. Payments can be made by debit or credit card.
