A new exhibition all about AI lands at the Vancouver Art Gallery this week

Robots in the art studio? What are they gonna paint? A new exhibition at the Vancouver Art Gallery has caught our attention, so we thought we’d share it with you. “The Imitation Game: Visual Culture in the Age of Artificial Intelligence” arrives at the Vancouver Art Gallery this week- here’s what to know before it does.

Organized in a chronological format, the group show will explore the evolution of artificial intelligence in the arts from its inception in the 1950s up until the present. Basically, from the first time we got a computer to solve a math problem and print it out, all the way to VR and other modern marvels.

It’s not just the fine arts getting explored, either. A wide variety of disciplines will get a look, including “animation, architecture, art, fashion, graphic design, urban design and video games.” If a computer helps the thing be created, then it’s fair game, more or less.

This new show will be launching this weekend, on Saturday, March 5th. Our advice? Wait until next week and take advantage of admission-by-donation, but definitely keep this artsy option in mind as winter winds down!
