Big news for those who have stumbled from Calgary’s rowdy 10-day rodeo wondering why there isn’t a closer hotel – one could be on its way!

As announced by the Calgary Municipal Land Corporation (CMLC), a fancy new hotel is in the works and will be built at Stampede Park in Calgary right beside the BMO Convention Centre.

Set to be the largest of its kind when the expansion is complete, The BMO Centre is only minutes from the Saddledome, Cowboys Casino and dozens of restaurants and retailers, making it the perfect place for something like this.

With 220+ rooms and 11,000 square feet of meeting space, this $80 million hotel (developed by Matthews Southwest Hospitality), will be incredibly convenient in the summer months, during hockey season or on nights when big artists take the stage.

“Today marks a major step forward in the development of the C+E District, and we are thrilled to be announcing our development agreement with Matthews Southwest Hospitality and our partners at the Calgary Stampede,” said CMLC’s President and CEO, Kate Thompson, in a press release.

“With the expansive construction on the BMO Centre moving along, we have been focused on securing a development partner to support the evolving needs of conventions and events in this area.”

According to CMLC, they will now be entering the design phase and are hoping to begin construction in 2024 – but we’ll keep you updated.

We’re sure it won’t be long until we get renderings and more information about the Calgary Stampede Hotel, so get ready, stay ready and prepare to be blown away.

This could be HUGE.
