‘Hot Boy Summer’ musical poking fun at Jason Kenney is coming to Edmonton

Did the promise of ‘the best summer ever’ not really live up to your expectations? First off- join the club. But also, maybe check out the new Jason Kenney-focused musical ‘Hot Boy Summer’ coming to Edmonton next week. This tongue-in-cheek (but just barely) play is a look back at how Premier Kenney may have spent his final days on campus. Here’s what to know.

According to the description, the setting of the musical will be ‘Alberta University’ circa 1983. And Kenney (played by Donovan Workun) wants to throw the best year-end party ever. However, his hopes for a rodeo theme blowout are slim, as ‘Rachel’, ‘Dean Trudeau’, and even his new friend ‘Deena’ all turn against him.

The play should be a wonderfully funny work of satire, even if it’s not accurate to Kenney’s own university experience (which you watch a recap of right here, and learn about the fallout from here). So, if anything, this upcoming play is letting him off easy. But hey, maybe they’ll throw some of that in there anyway.

Regardless, this satirical musical lands at the Grindstone Theatre next week, and tickets are already onsale! For more information, just click the link below.
