From landmarks and cities to parks and scenic boardwalks, Wild Rose Country has it all, but in the summertime, there’s no place like the mountains – especially if you need somewhere to cool off.

With some of the prettiest water in the province, places like Banff, Canmore, and Waterton are must-visit destinations, but if you’re headed to Jasper, Horseshoe Lake should be on your hit list.

Known to few, but beloved by many, this crystal-clear swimming hole is surrounded by tall cliffs and green trees.

However, while it appears to be a tranquil oasis, there is much fun to be had when temperatures rise.

Although Parks Canada does not recommend jumping from any overhanging rocks due to its deceivingly shallow pockets of water, visitors can take a dip, have a picnic, and get a tan.

To get to the sapphire watering hole, you’ll have to follow Highway 93 South from Jasper until you get to the Horseshoe Lake Trail.

This will take approximately a half hour, then once there, hike into the forested area across from the parking lot for about 1.5 km – this is where you’ll find the perfect summer hang.

It’s something else, so pick a weekend, hit the mountains and enjoy, Alberta.

You won’t regret it!
