The festive season came early, or better yet, it’s here for the summer! If you’re looking to get right into the holidays you definitely can, at least at Holiday Beach Conservation area. See what we did there? Anyway, this little piece of paradise has a stunning beach, trails to explore, and a three-storey observation tower with 360 views. Here’s what to know about this Ontario beach.
Just over a four-hour drive, minutes away from the Detroit border is Holiday Beach Conservation Area. You’ll find its beach nestled along the Lake Erie shoreline – a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the city scene.
Though it’s a smaller spot in comparison to other destinations like Wasaga Beach and Grand Bend, it’s definitely a sandy coastline worth exploring.

Along with its blue waters, Holiday Beach is home to nature trails, a boardwalk, and even a three-storey observation tower for a panoramic view of the conservation area. It also has serviced seasonal campsites, a gorgeous rental cottage, new showers, and washrooms, large shady picnic areas, and more.
According to Essex Region Conservation, Holiday Beach received international recognition in 2000 as a globally significant Important Bird Area (IBA), joining BirdLife International’s global network of IBA sites.
“The designation is as a result of the significance of the area for raptor migration and as a known breeding area for Prothonotary Warblers (a nationally endangered species). Visit the world renowned Festival of Hawks each September to witness the migration celebration as thousands of hawks, vultures, eagles, falcons and other birds of prey concentrate in the area before heading across the Detroit River towards warmer, more southerly destinations for the winter,” shares the organization.
According to Essex Region Conservation, the entry cost per car is $12 and can be paid using credit at an automated gate.
Holiday Beach Conservation Area is open for day use from 6 AM to 8 PM daily.
