Where-bnb: This ‘Hilltop House’ in Iceland has its own geothermal pool

Whether it’s a full-on expedition or a quick stopover on the way home, there’s no denying that Iceland continues to be a must-see destination for travellers. And, once you’re done seeing the sights, the Hilltop House offers a beautiful spot kick back and take it all in. Let’s check it out!

Located under an hour outside of Reykjavik, the Hilltop House is the crown jewel of a private, 1,200 acre farm estate. So, while you can easily access the nearby amenities and culture of the capital city, you’ll also feel a world away during much of your stay.

And, it comes with the extras to match. The property offers a wide variety of activities and amenities for you to enjoy, from a private lake to multiple hiking and biking trails. But naturally, the real stunner here is the inclusion of your own personal geothermal pool to enjoy. It’ll be needed- temperatures in Iceland rarely go above 20 degrees Celsius, no matter the time of year.

As for the house itself, its quality matches the surroundings. While Iceland is not part of Scandinavia, the design here certainly pays homage to the style, with a vibrant, open floor plan that combines incredible views with high quality furnishings and a surprisingly comfy vibe.

There’s a historical reason for the 360 degree views, too. Turns out, the Hilltop House was originally used as a communications centre by the British during WWII, and has been visited by the likes of FDR Jr. and Winston Churchill. Not that you’d ever guess that today- recent renovations have more or less completely transformed the space.

Now, it should be noted that Iceland, like Canada, takes a while to get around. So, if we’re out here giving some actual travel advice, we think your best bet is to enjoy this as a weekend getaway instead of a home base for your entire trip. That way, you’ll still be able to explore some of the country’s most iconic sights (which can easily be up to 8 hours by car from Iceland), while saving the day trip options for your stay here. Otherwise, you might get home and have to rebook another visit as soon as possible!

Not that that’s such a bad thing… If you’re feeling a little adventurous, you can check out this incredible Airbnb in Iceland for yourself right here.
