Here’s what we know about this year’s Calgary Stampede midway

Well, folks, the Calgary Stampede is going ahead in 2021 — that much we know is true. But, what is it actually going to look like? That picture became a little more clear thanks to the company behind the Calgary Stampede midway, where Stampede-goers will be able to still enjoy a variety of rides and entertainment at this year’s event.

According to North American Midway Entertainment (NAME), the group that actually runs the Stampede midway, they’re expecting to have 10 to 11 rides, which is about 15% of what the Stampede usually has.

Along with this, NAME will only be bringing 250 workers for the event, who will all undergo a 14-day quarantine beforehand to adhere to the province’s regulations. OH, and according to Global News, this year’s Stampede will include the infamous Zipper ride, so even if you’re missing out on some of your favourites you can still go for a rip on one of the ‘Pede’s most classic thrills.

As for eating, drinking, and playing games along the midway, that’s all still undecided.

Now, what is the province actually saying about the Stampede? Well, not much. At this point, the province hasn’t approved nor denied any of the proposed Calgary Stampede activities, including the midway. That said, they are actively working with the Stampede organizers to make sure that some sort of event can take place this July.

Fingers crossed we can have ourselves a safe return to The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth!
