Here’s what to know about the latest extension of restrictions in Ontario

Another day, another COVID-19 update. This time, it’s the extension of a set of orders by the provincial government under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act. The extension means that a few guidelines, which were set to expire on June 2nd, will now carry forward until June 16th. Cue a sigh so deep it’s heard across the province.

So here’s what you need to know. The extension, which was made official on Thursday, May 27th, covers nine items. They include the continued closure of provincial border crossings from Manitoba or Quebec, the continued ban of recreational camping on public land, compliance orders for retirement homes, and various regulations for hospital staff and patients.

It’s important to note this does not mean major changes in the three-step reopening plan Ontario announced on May 20th. The province is still expected to enter Step One of reopening two weeks after 60% of adults have the first dose of the vaccination. As it stands now, that’s likely to happen the week of June 14th.
