Here’s what Canadians searched about the most on Google this year

We won’t lie to you folks, we searched some weird stuff on Google this year. And, the recent roundup of the highest trending searches on Google in Canada this year shows us just how weird we were. Maybe 2021 is the year that ‘cat jam smooth jazz remix (EDIT)’ finally enters the mainstream.

Instead, this year’s list shows just how much stuff has happened since January. We’ll go ahead and say it- the mood for the zeitgeist this year is ‘serious’. Let’s see what the top searches actually were:

Top Trending Searches

  1. US election
  2. Coronavirus
  3. Kobe Bryant
  4. Zoom
  5. Raptors
  6. CERB
  7. Kim Jong Un

Coming in the number 1 and 2 spots were ‘US election’ and ‘coronavirus’ respectively. Then, the rest of the list is a who’s who of sports stories, big tech names, and sadly, tragic losses. And while we’re happy to see that Canadians are honing in on things like CERB and Kim Jong Un, we wish at least one meme snuck its way on there.

Oh well, maybe next year. If you’d like to explore this year’s list of the most searched things on Google, just click here! Have fun exploring the world wide web, folks!
