Here’s everything you need to know about Toronto’s newest Greenway project

Ah, Toronto. The city that’s always working on itself. Would it really be the 6ix if there weren’t new projects and construction popping up all around town all the time? We don’t think so. Today, we’re going to give you the lowdown on an ongoing development that’ll provide a great new public space for the city’s people. Yep, we’re talking about the Davenport Diamond Project.

So the Davenport Diamond Project is an ongoing development in collaboration with the city’s transit system Metrolinx. They’ve just announced that Brown and Storey Architects will be taking on the design of the exciting new development.

So here’s what they’ve got in store. For starters, you should know about the Davenport Diamond Guideway. This will be the raised rail intersection located where the Barrie GO meets the CP Tracks. The development will help with the congestion problem the spot currently faces as one of the busiest intersections in the city.

As for the public space we’re discussing today? That’ll be located just underneath. The public greenway is set to be equipped with all kinds of amazing perks for the people. Outlined in a recent press release, Metrolinx writes that we can expect the following:

  1. A linear park adjacent to the multi-use trail and under the elevated guideway to reconnect several areas on the east and west side of the rail corridor
  2. A fully accessible multi-use path for pedestrians and cyclists
  3. A sustainable approach to landscape and plantings
  4. Pollinating gardens
  5. Gathering spaces for the community

Not too shabby, eh? We’ve got a feeling this outdoor spot will be great for the community!

Of course, it’s all still in fairly early planning stages as of now. This phase of the greenway project is building on over five years of consultations with the community and still has a pretty long way to go. It may not be here for a while, but we’re sure it’ll be worth the wait!
