Since we talked about Ryan Reynolds yesterday, we thought we should maybe talk about Seth Rogen today. You know, start the new year on a lighter note. Luckily, there ain’t much lighter to talk about than the beloved Canadian actor’s foray into the wide world of ceramics. Chances are you’ve seen the posts. Well, here’s a little more back story.

Rogen’s first adventures started way back in April of 2019. After posting a few ashtrays from his private collection, Rogen shared with the world his own attempts at making some. What can we say? The guy loves weed, and apparently, loves nice ashtrays while smoking. We don’t blame him.
A month after that original post, Rogen decided to share his very first vases with the world. These guys featured relatively simple shapes but also showcased Seth’s interest in texture and dyeing techniques. This becomes a lot more important later on.

Fast forward to the start of 2020, and Rogen has made dozens of ashtrays and vases for himself. The man has started experimenting with various dyeing techniques, and creating more and more complex shapes. This is met with much fanfare from fans of Rogen’s and pottery alike. Admittedly, it’s a weird match up, but we like it.
Over the year of 2020 (and as a small silver lining of self-isolation rules), Rogen really starts to experiment with his creations. Now, we’re starting to see themes that are reminiscent of some of the rarest and best pottery on earth.

And the real kicker? Rogen looks the part. Compare the above promo photo of Rogen for the film ‘An American Pickle’ with one of the few known photos of George Ohr, AKA the Mad Potter of Biloxi. Even more interesting is that Ohr is known for his wild colours and a fascination with inkwells. Inkwells, ashtrays… hmmm.
Now, all Seth needs to do is move to the country and grow a mustache. Before he knows it, he’ll have a major ceramic arts centre (looking at you, MOA) in his name. Or, at the very least, more reviews from Artnet. We look forward to following along!
