Give your bulbs a break! Saturday, March 27th we encourage you to join ourselves and the rest of the world in flipping the switch from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm in honour of Earth Day! Of course, just because the lights are off doesn’t mean your plans have to be! Here are a few things that you can do to get yourself through 60 minutes of darkness.

HOST A GAME NIGHT

Pull out that Twister mat, the Jenga, some scrabble, or – if you’re feeling brave, try to put together a puzzle by candlelight. Playing board games can be a great way to waste away the hour of darkness on Earth Day!

STARGAZE

It’s not every day that you get the opportunity to stargaze in the city without all of that light pollution. When the lights go out, point those peepers to the skies and ogle in awe at the universe. Fingers crossed for an evening of cloud-free viewing!

HAVE A LATE NIGHT CANDLELIGHT DINNER

Now, though we’d strongly encourage you to pre-cut your veggies with the lights on, this Earth Day is the perfect time for a candlelit dinner. Pour a few glasses of wine, whip up some pasta and feel free to slurp those noodles silly – because you probably won’t be able to see the mess on your faces. How romantic.

PAINT A MASTERPIECE

Split a bottle of wine with your COVID bubble-buddy and get back in touch with your creative, more colourful sides! Head over to your nearest dollar store or to Amazon and order a few watercolour paints, some brushes, and a canvas then have yourself a flashlight lit paint party.

TREAT YOURSELF TO AN EVENING AT THE ‘SPA’

Whether you choose to take a candlelit bath, or put on some zen AF music and zone out with a facemask on, treat yourself this Earth Hour! You have the time so really, it’s the perfect excuse to unplug and wind down.

HAVE A SERIOUS MOVIE NIGHT

You may have binged your way through all of Netflix and seen every new film that’s come out in the last year, but when was the last time you took the business of holding a movie night seriously? This Earth Hour spice it up by making a bed on the floor, stocking up on snacks and popcorn, then turning off your phones and all of the lights!

DO AN AT-HOME BEER OR WINE TASTING

Put together a charcuterie board then pick your poison. Whether it’s beer or wine, why not stop by and pick up a few bottles or cans of the good stuff in anticipation of Earth hour? Score each one, jot them down and spend the evening drinking and talking.

Well, there you have it, friends, a few things that you can do during Earth hour. Please be extra careful with those pinky toes, watch for the corners of counters and remember to have fun! Enjoy!
